First, sorry it has been sooooo long since I've updated. Katie, this is for you, so enjoy!
The summer, well, if you can call it that, is leaving us and winter is fast approaching. We are not at all excited about this. We have had nothing but rain and cold. Yes, I know those of you in Fairbanks have had an even more unpleasant summer. The few days of sunshine were spent outside all day soaking in the rays. I did not take nearly as many pictures as I had planned, so the picture post is a bit lame. I also have more to post, but this site is giving me problems. More to come later.
As some of you know, Timothy goes to a private Christian school. We do not think would do well in a public school and we have been so blessed at Heritage with people who love and adore Timothy. He does so well there and loves every kid and teacher. It has always been a struggle for us to have him in Heritage and we make many financial sacrifices. This was the first year that we have actually applied for our PFD. One of the payment options for tuition is to pay in full once the PFD arrives. We opted for that choice and felt relieved from the pressure of saving enough for monthly payments. Well after two days of school this year, we got a phone call saying that because we were late on four payments last year, we could not use that option and would have to continue making monthly payments. Eddie and I felt it would be impossible.
While Timothy was in school that day Eddie and I visited Rilke Schule. It is the German school. We fell in love with the place and were so excited about it. We kept emphasizing, "And it's free..." That day when we picked Timothy up from school, I informed his teacher that we would be pulling him out of Heritage. Eddie told Timothy. He was not as excited as we hoped he would be, but he was trying hard not to show his disappointment. We went from there back to Rilke so that Timothy could see his classrooms and Eddie and I could talk with the teachers. Timothy was quiet and very observant the whole time. He inspected every inch of both rooms. Later that night we were leaving the home of some friends and we passed Heritage. Timothy said "I don't want to leave my school." We figured he was upset about leaving is friends. Instead, he said "I don't want to leave my school because my school teaches about God. That other school....that other school does NOT teach about God." Eddie and I looked at each other without saying a word and both felt terribly convicted. Our six year old son was focused on the priority. What matters to him is being in a Christian environment filled with those who love the Lord. We never explained to him that Rilke was a secular school.
That night Eddie and I stayed awake and prayed. We prayed for an hour over Timothy after he fell asleep, then we prayed the rest of the night for God's forgiveness and wisdom. We doubted Him. We doubted that God could provide. We had been blinded by our frustration and fixation on finances. We decided that we would go back to Heritage and re-enroll him.
That next morning we were thinking clearly. We had never even talked to the administrator about the phone call the previous day. She had not even known about it. She said that of course we could stick with our original payment plan. This is the woman who helped us out last year because they love having Timothy at Heritage. He is known for his enthusiasm.
I just wanted to share our lesson learned and how great our God is. I pray for a faith like my son's.
